9-11 Tenth Anniversary Memorial ATA  Shoot

September 3rd and 4th, 2011

 Results:

Over 50 shooters started the new ATA target year by taking part in a shoot that honored the memories of the heroes who gave their lives on 9-11 and those that continue to do so today.  They shot for $2,500 in added money that was donated by Boise Gun Club registered shooters and for 43 memorable and distinctive trophies.

There was a free steak dinner for shooters on Saturday evening and everyone enjoyed birthday cake on Sunday in honor of the birthdays of four club members – Don Young, Joe Barnhill, Virgil Perry, and Doug Rae who were all born on 9-11.

Shooters enjoyed beautiful shooting weather and fired at 21,200 registered targets for the weekend and scores were good.  Randy Brixey fired his first 100 straight ever to lead the singles on Sunday and current Camas Prairie singles champion John Keppinger led all shooters in the Saturday singles with the lone 100.  Mike Miller topped the doubles event by two birds with his 96.  Handicap champions were Teresa Kohn on Saturday with a lone 96 and Levi Veatch on Sunday with a 98 and a coin flip win over Tom VanBelle.  Kohn also was the high lady in both singles events and the Sunday handicap.  Veatch used his 98 to earn his 27 yard ATA pin for the first time.  He also captured a four-way shoot-off for AA singles on Saturday and won long yardage in the Saturday handicap.

APRIL WARM-UP SHOOT

ATA REGISTERED

BOISE GUN CLUB.  APRIL 3RD, 2011

Results:

With no rain, no snow, and clear skies, 53 shooters took part in the Boise Gun Club Spring shoot and fired at 11,600 registered targets.  The day started with a cold breeze blowing during the singles.  By the time the doubles were shot the temperature had become more pleasant, but the breeze stayed around all day holding scores down below normal for this time of year.

The singles event was topped by Levi Veatch and Kent Harris with 98’s to win their respective classes.  Bob Kelly fired a great 97 to lead the doubles event by five birds.  Harris broke 91 to win the handicap event as he edged Veatch by two birds.  Phillip Barrus took home three trophies for three events as he was high junior twice and long yardage handicap winner.  Terry Reininger won two rookie trophies and Angela Pitman won two of the three ladies awards.

PITA MULTIPLEX.  BOISE GUN CLUB.  SUNDAY, DECEMBER 5TH, 2010.

The Boise Gun Club held their second multiplex shoot of the year, and after digging out of snow left over from  a storm that set a record for snowfall on that date and closed the club for one operating day the Wednesday before, shooters were treated to a pretty nice day for shooting.  The shooting was delayed for about an hour as club members finished shoveling snow (and a thick layer of ice) from around the clubhouse and off of three trap aprons.

12 shooters took part in the event and went into a Lewis class pool of over 300 shooters from clubs all over the Northwest.  Jay Fraiser who had just returned from work in Alaska for a short vacation found the snowy conditions ideal and broke the first ever 50 straight in doubles at the Boise site in six multiplex shoots.

29 events were shot,  1450 targets were thrown and one new member was signed up.

Scores in the singles ranged from 50 to 39 and in the handicap from 44 to 36.  Fraiser’s 50 led the doubles and scores went down to 30.  Two shooters will hit the Lewis pay-offs for sure and everyone is hoping to hit a “ lucky Lewis” somewhere.

The multiplex program is proving to be a fun way to keep interest in registered shooting up during the cold winter months.  Last year Boise and Caldwell shot the multiplex program in Idaho and this year the Burley Gun Club has joined in.  All three clubs will shoot again on the first weekend in January and the first weekend in February.

41ST ANNUAL BOISE GUN CLUB MEMBER’S CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SHOOT.  SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 19TH, 2010.  NON-REGISTERED.

The Boise Gun Club Member’s Championship Shoot was originally set for Sunday, August 22nd but had to be rescheduled because a fierce windstorm the evening before had blown down power poles and cut off electrical power to the club and it was not restored until Monday.  This was the first time in 39 years at that location that a planned shooting event had to be rescheduled.  In spite of no power, a free breakfast was served by Steve and Trish Deweese as they were able to cook on the gas grill at the club.  Members also held their annual membership meeting and elected the 2010-2011 board of directors on the 22nd.

When the shooting finally did take place, Bob Kelly captured the coveted club champion’s buckle with a score of 233 X 250 on the five 50 bird events.  He also won the handicap championship with 47 and tied for high in the Continental event with 50 straight.  Kent Harris was the H-O-A winner on the three trap events with 145 and he also topped the singles event with 50 and the doubles with 48.  Ron Wright captured the H-O-A buckle for the combined score on the Continental and Skeet events with a 94 and a shoot-off win over Taylor Westerberg.  Pat Fulghum won the Continental event with 50 straight and a shoot-off over Kelly, and Westerberg led all shooters in the Skeet event with 48.

SIXTH ANNUAL STEVE YOUNG MEMORIAL TRAPSHOOT.  PITA REGISTERED.  BOISE GUN CLUB.  SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2010

The bad weather that has plagued Southern Idaho trapshoots all year continued to strike the Boise Gun Club.  After a week of beautiful weather in the valley, Sunday dawned with a deep overcast and a prediction for rain starting in the late afternoon.  Instead, the rain began before shooting started and continued all day until the handicap was almost over.  Total rainfall for the day set an all-time record for that date in Boise.

Despite the weather conditions, 44 shooters shot 10,500 registered targets and turned in some nice scores.  Jeff DuPuis and Kody Klundt topped the 16’s with 99’s, All-Americans Shawn Cahoon and Stuart Welton paced the doubles with 97’s and Randy Brixey took the handicap champion’s buckle by three targets with a lone 98.  Cahoon edged Welton by one bird for the H-O-A with 285 and then again topped Welton by one in the Super High-Over-All buckle shoot-off where the champion and class winners shoot for a buckle and birds are added in singles and doubles for the B, C, and D class winners.  Cahoon broke 59 X 60 to win with the highest scratch ever recorded in this event.

Don Young donated $150 for two draw scores in the handicap.  Scores of 84 and 56 were drawn and Kent Harris took the $100 bill and Ric Thomas won the $50.

Five new members were signed up and 24 of the shooters took part in the PITA Multiplex also.  Father and son Randy and Codey Brixey each earned their first 25 and 50 Idaho PITA straight pins, Sherm Mullins earned his 50 pin, and Jim Cahoon, Terry Reininger, and Lorenzo Delcurto got their 25 straight pins.  In the Super H-O-A shoot-off for the first time ever, all five shooters ran the 20 singles.
