Trap League Rules
- PURPOSE:
The BOISE GUN CLUB trap-shooting league shall be for the purpose of providing an environment in which individuals may participate in team trapshooting, compete as a team for awards and enjoy the fellowship attendant of the sport. It is the goal of the BOISE GUN CLUB to satisfy, as nearly as possible, the desires and needs of all shooters regardless of their ability and provide sufficient competition to meet the needs of long-term shooters while providing the less experienced shooters with an equal opportunity to receive awards for their efforts.
- TEAMS:
A TRAP TEAM shall consist of five (5) shooters. Substitutions shall not be allowed except in those cases when, for whatever reason, a shooter is unable to complete a league cycle. In such cases, teams may secure a replacement shooter and that shooter must complete the remaining league.
- OFFICERS:
The league teams shall appoint a captain for each team. The captain shall be responsible for the collecting and paying to the club the sponsors fee, signing in to shoot, conduct of the team on the shooting line, safety practices. It shall be the captains’ responsibility to bring any problem that requires arbitration before the League Committee. The League Committee shall hear the nature of the issue from all involved parties included in the problem, and issue a resolution. All decisions of the League Committee will be final and in the best interest of the club.A League Management Committee can be appointed by the Board from time to time to arrange for the running of the trap league, obtaining trophies, and organizing league parties. The League anagement Committee shall follow the guidelines as set forth by the Board regarding all expenses and management of the league. The League Management Committee shall serve at the pleasure of the Board and can be dissolved at anytime upon written notice by the Board.
- SPONSOR AND SHOOTING FEES:
Each team participating in a league cycle shall pay a sponsor fee. Prior to a league beginning, the Board will decide the amount of the team sponsor fee. This fee shall be used to cover the cost of awards for that league cycle. The sponsor fee shall be paid no later than the fourth (4th) week of the league cycle. Non-payment of this fee may result in the loss of eligibility for any sponsor or
team’s awards and party participation for the members of that team.Each member of the shooting team will be required to purchase a weekly league shoot ticket in order to shoot league scores. Prior to a league beginning, the Board will decide the cost of a weekly league shoot ticket, and the distributional amounts to be used for targets and the league party.
The sponsor and weekly league ticket fees will be reviewed at the end of each calendar year, by the Board and adjusted as needed to pay for targets, trophies, and league parties.
TEAM SIGN-UP REGISTRATION:
Teams shall be signed up for each league cycle only through submission of the official registration form supplied by the League Management Committee. Registration forms will be available at the Gun Club. Teams should register before the first week of the new league cycle if possible.
FORMAT OF COMPETITION:
Weekly team scores shall consist of one round (25 targets) shot from the 16-yard line, and one round (25 targets) shot from the team handicap yardage. The total number of targets broken on the 16-yard line shall be used to determine the handicap yardage. The team Captain and the trapper will both initial the score sheet before leaving the trap field. The trapper will retain the score sheet and turn it in to the League Committee for review, prior to posting the scores.

- Note: In the event that a team member is absent, the 16-yardline posted reserve score of the absent member shall be included in calculating the teams’ handicap yardage. The Team captain shall notify the trapper of the absent team members score before the team begins shooting.
- LEAGUE CYCLE:
A league cycle shall consist of a “reserve week”, ten weeks of competition, followed by an award and dinner week.
- USE OF RESERVE SCORES:
Scores shot during the reserve week shall be indicated as such on the score sheet. After the score sheet has been verified, the scores will be posted on the scoreboard and held in reserve in case unforeseen circumstances preventing a shooter from shooting with their team members on any particular shooting day/night. Reserve scores are to be use ONLY when a team member is unable to attend a weekly shooting date and are not be used in lieu of a lesser score. In other words, all shootersshowing up to shoot with their teams must post the score they shoot that day/night and are not allowed to substitute with their reserve score to improve target count.
When using a team members reserve score, the score must be posted on the score sheet and used to establish the handicap yardage that the team must shoot from. In the event no reserve score has been posted, a zero score shall be posted. There shall be no averaging of shooter scores for missed shooting. After a shooter uses their reserve score, they may shoot another reserve score to be used in the future.
- SHOOTING IN ADVANCE OR ARREARS:
Shooting in arrears will not be permitted (NO CATCH-UP). However, teams entering the league after the first week of shooting, but before the fourth week, may at the discretion of the League Management Committee be permitted to shoot sufficient scores to get current with the rest of the league.When for whatever reason, a shooter knows in advance that they will be unable to shoot with their team, that shooter will be allowed to shoot in advance as needed. Advance shooting of more than three (3) weeks shall require prior approval from the League Management Committee. When shooting in advance, all scores must be posted, the score sheet date stamped and signed by the shooter and trapper, and the score sheets marked as “advanced shooting.” The score sheets will then be turned into the League Committee.
- SCORES:
Should a team members fail to shoot, and that member does not have a reserve score posted, a zero will be posted for that shooter.
Contesting a Score:
The trapper is the Boise Gun Club’s official representative on the trap field. The trapper is responsible for making sure the house is full of targets and ready for operation. The trapper is also responsible for collecting a league ticket from each and every shooter prior to starting the shoot, if you don’t have a league ticket then don’t expect to shoot. You will not be allowed to owe us one. Once shooting has started it should be all quiet on the line, to prevent throwing extra unnecessary targets. If you call for a target you had better shoot it. The only reason for not shooting will be a gun or ammunition malfunction. Slow pulls because of a faulty microphone will be tolerated at the trapper’s discretion. The trapper also has the final say on weather the target is dead or a loss. A verbal challenge may be issued at the time of the call, but the final call on the target is at the trapper’s discretion. Any verbal challenges to scoring calls other than when the target is initially called will not be debated.
LEAGUE DIVISIONS:
In order to provide as many awards as possible and to better equalize the competition among teams of comparable ability, the league shall be divided into class divisions for purposes of awards. The number of class divisions and the number of teams per division shall be decided by the League Committee, based on the total number of team’s participating in any given league.
Division of the league shall take place after the fourth week of league.
Awards shall be made for 1st, 2nd place in each division, or as determined by the League Committee.
LEAGUE AWARD PARTIES:
The award parties shall consist of fun shooting, dinner, awards, and a short discussion among the shooters and board members concerning the betterment of the league. All shooters, sponsors, their spouses, and their children still living at home are permitted to attend the league party at no charge (excluding charges for the fun shooting). Additional guest(s) may be invited to the awards party upon payment of a guest fee. The Board of Directors shall establish the guest fee prior to the dinner party.
NOTE:
It is the intent of THE BOISE GUN CLUB and its Directors to promote trap shooting in the community and surrounding area. Therefore, you need not be a member of the BOISE GUN CLUB to participate in the trap league shooting competition provided at the club.
