2010 BOISE GUN CLUB THANKSGIVING  MEAT  SHOOT.   WEDNESDAY EVENING.  NOVEMBER 24, 2010.

A large crowd braved temperatures below zero to take part in the annual Thanksgiving Eve Meat shoot held at the Boise Gun Club.  Burn barrels behind each trap were favorite spots as shooters huddled around them and waited their turns to shoot trap or skeet for turkeys and hams.  Shooting began at 3 p.m. and continued until around midnight as 427 meat prizes were won.  This included 15 splatter board prizes.

It had snowed the day before the meat shoot, so along with the cold, the trap and skeet fields had to be shoveled and snow also removed around the clubhouse.  The bitter cold made conditions very difficult for the equipment.  It took a while for the Pat traps to warm up and stop throwing multiple targets at a time.  We also lost one skeet field and one trap field to mechanical problems associated with the cold temperatures.  The cold was especially brutal for club members and trap help who were pulling and scoring the meat shoots.  Thanks to everyone who pitched in and made it possible to rotate people into the clubhouse and to the burn barrels.  Many of the hardy Idaho shooters came prepared and had portable shelters, heaters and other cold weather gear.

In spite of the weather conditions, shooter had a good start to their holiday season with lots of shooting, food and fun.  Several raffles were held and Ducks Unlimited raffled a very nice shotgun and a 10-22 was also raffled off.
