American Gunsmithing Institute doesn't hire instructors—they hire working gunsmiths. Gene Kelly founded AGI after studying under and working directly with Master Gunsmith Bob Dunlap at Lassen College. The instructor roster reads like a who's-who of actual gunsmithing:
The Team:
- •Bob Dunlap (Master Gunsmith, Senior Instructor Emeritus) spent 30+ years teaching while running his own full-service shop with 6 full-time gunsmiths. His shop was a warranty station for Colt, Browning, Remington and a dozen other major manufacturers.
- •Ken Brooks (Master Gunsmith) worked in Dunlap's shop for over 20 years before taking over Pacific International Service Company. He teaches armorer courses and advanced extractor/ejector work.
- •Gene Kelly (Founder & President) has been gunsmithing for 40+ years, is a licensed Class 2 Manufacturer, and consults with gunsmiths and FFL dealers nationwide.
- •Darrel Holland (Master Gunsmith) is renowned for long-range rifle building and holds numerous patents on gunsmithing and hunting products. He runs a shooting school in Montana.
- •Mark Foster (Master Gunsmith) spent 30+ years in law enforcement as Deputy Sheriff and Senior Armorer before teaching AR-15 and armorer courses.
- •Gene Shuey (Master Gunsmith) builds custom 1911s and Glocks and specializes in old-school finishes and firearm restoration. He studied under legendary masters and was an original member of the Practical Shooting Federation.
- •John Bush (Master Armorer) is the expert on U.S. and foreign military firearms—AK builds, M1 Garand rebuilds, and military identification.
- •Fred Zeglin (Master Gunsmith) is a cartridge developer and founded 4D Reamer Rentals. He's written books on gunsmithing and authored the biography of P.O. Ackley.
- •Robert Rizzetto (Master Welder) has 50+ years of welding experience and teaches gas, arc, MIG, and TIG welding.
- •William Woolman (Master Locksmith) has 30+ years in locksmithing and specializes in rare/collectible locks and safes.
