Cowboy Action Shooting (CAS) originated in 1981 and is rooted in the history of the Wild West, aiming to replicate the types of firearms and shooting styles used during that period. Encouraged to dress in period costumes, participants use single-action revolvers (most commonly Colt SAA and reproductions), pistol-caliber lever action rifles (Winchester 1873/1866 reproductions), and old-time shotguns.
