Full description and what we offer
Post Rock Outfitters operates out of Minneapolis, Kansas in Ottawa County, roughly 25 minutes north of Salina and 45 miles northwest of Salina proper. The operation spans 6,000+ acres across Lincoln, Ottawa, Saline, and Cloud counties—prime north central Kansas hunting ground known for growing monster whitetails.
The land itself is diverse: river bottoms, crop ground with creek bottoms, wooded pasture draws, and native CRP grass all support healthy populations of whitetail and Rio Grande turkeys. Corn, milo, soybeans, wheat, and alfalfa create the food sources that build big bucks. Corn feeders run throughout the season to concentrate deer movement.
Post Rock enforces a 140" minimum with a $1,000 fine for anything under—a strict management policy that increases your odds at the 5½+ year old bucks. The genetics and herd management here produce consistent trophy opportunities.
2025 Deer Pricing:
| Hunt Type | Duration | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Rifle | 5.5 days | $4,500 |
| Archery | 5.5 days | $4,250 |
| Muzzleloader | 6 days | $4,500 |
Muzzleloader Season (Late September): The earliest season when deer are just out of velvet and patternable. Limited cover movement means you can hunt from chairs and close distance if needed. Best hunting at first and last light with quality optics.
Archery Season (Late October–November): Runs from Halloween through pre-Thanksgiving. Peak rut action means giants are on their feet chasing does. Weather varies wildly—plan for snow or 75 degrees. Many hunters sit all day because that trophy buck could cruise by anytime.
Rifle Season (Wednesday after Thanksgiving, 12 days): Giant bucks hit the ground during these twelve days as they finish the last does. Rutting action typically winds down; bucks are tired and food-focused. Hunts run from box blinds over corn piles in harvested soybean, milo, or corn stubble. Bring a propane heater. They recommend rifle competency to 300 yards.
Draw Tag Process: Kansas is a draw state. Application deadline is the last business day in April. Tags and licenses run $554.53. Post Rock guides you through the process to maximize draw odds. A 50% deposit is required before the April draw deadline (non-refundable). Starting in 2024, they ask all clients to have at least 1 preference point before booking.
"After the shot we take care of everything from tracking to gutting the deer. We pick it up in the Polaris Ranger and take it back to the lodge to process later."
Hunting the wind is critical. Guides sit down each morning and evening to review what you've seen and move you to different stands or farms as needed. They stay in touch while you're hunting in case the wind shifts or a giant appears in the distance.
The Rio Grande population is phenomenal with hunters typically achieving 100% success rates. Season runs from early April through late May, with youth and archery starting first, shotgun around April 10th. Post Rock typically stops around May 15th when it gets tougher.
Turkey Hunt Package: 3-day hunts with the opportunity to tag 2 longbeards. One-on-one or two hunters per guide. Lodging included; meals not served but kitchens are furnished for self-catering. Tags and licenses are additional.
Price: $1,500 for 3 days (lodging included)
Predator populations are borderline out of control on the property, making population management a priority. Hunts start after Christmas when weather turns cold and predators seek food sources.
Hunt timing matters: mornings and evenings produce better odds than all-day hunts (afternoon hunting educates coyotes more than it succeeds). You can target a specific species or set up for either—bobcats are tougher but doable, sometimes they come in easily.
Equipment: Bring a smaller caliber rifle (.223, .243, 22-250, .204) you're comfortable shooting out to 200 yards, though most shots won't be that far.
Pricing: - Day hunts only: $500 per gun per day (lodging included) - Day and night combo with thermal: $850 per gun per day
Duration: Post Rock recommends 3-day hunts and prefers one-on-one setups, though group hunts can be arranged. Lodging always included.
