Full description and what we offer
Maine Upland Guide Service hunts ruffed grouse and woodcock in Maine's Upper Enchanted Wilderness near Jackman—10,000 square miles of covers that actually hold birds. While grouse populations struggle across most of the country, Maine's logging industry keeps the woods young and healthy. Maine Upland knows this landscape and works it year-round.
They don't just show up and hope. During off-season, guides conduct drumming surveys, mark bird contacts, and scout new covers. They know where the grouse are before the hunt starts. It's the kind of preparation that changes a trip from "we walked around" to "we found birds."
"I've been chasing ruffed grouse in Maine for years but have never, at any time ever encountered so many of them as I did at Maine Upland Guide Service." — Jared Lawson
Most guided hunts come with lodging and meals at their well-appointed camp. Covers start right outside your door. You'll hunt with either American Brittany or German Shorthaired Pointers—well-trained dogs that work the birds properly.
Want to bring your own dog? They'll run it, help train it, and introduce it to wild grouse. That's not standard.
The ruffed grouse is what upland hunters call "the king of all game birds." The challenges and rewards don't compare to other bird hunting. If you've only hunted pheasants over a dog, you haven't experienced what upland hunting can really be.
Maine Upland was featured in Project Upland magazine for their approach to dog training and grouse hunting in challenging cover.
