Location details and information
Central Montana Shooting Complex operates as a privately-owned, member-supported range at 520 Lime Kiln Rd in Lewistown. The club exists to create a safe environment for recreational shooting while promoting firearms education, safety training, and marksmanship across all experience levels—from kids to law enforcement to dedicated sport shooters.
The facility includes multiple dedicated ranges:
All ranges operate sunrise to sunset, 7 days a week (hours subject to change). The facility uses designated targets and target holders only, with established berms and backstops to contain all rounds on property.
Annual Membership: $75
Memberships run January 1 to December 31. You'll receive an individually-numbered key for gate access. Members must lock the gate behind them at all times—the front gate stays locked to keep the range secure.
A seasonal Hunters Pass is also available October 1 through December 31 for $50.
Purchase membership at: > Sport Center | 120 2nd Ave S, Lewistown, MT 59457 | (406) 535-9308
This isn't a casual shooting spot. CMSC is insured, and insurance coverage applies only when you follow the rules. Break them, have an accident, and you're liable.
Key safety points:
| Prohibited Ammunition | Prohibited Firearms |
|---|---|
| Armor-piercing | Fully automatic |
| Steel core | .50 BMG |
| Iron core | Magnum handguns (pistol range) |
| Explosive | — |
| Tracer | — |
If no RSO (Range Safety Officer) is present, members designate one. Only the RSO sends shooters downrange and manages cease-fires with flags and lights.
CMSC runs a popular annual raffle—buy tickets for a chance to win one of 31 firearms throughout January. Past winners include members like Keith Kuler, Don Bost, Darwin Reynolds, and many others from the Lewistown area.
The club is member-governed:
Violating range rules can result in membership termination. RSOs have authority to remove members whose behavior is unsafe or irresponsible.
Action-defensive pistol competitors, cowboy action shooters, centerfire rifle marksmen, sporting clays enthusiasts, skeet shooters, and rimfire hobbyists all use the range. The club welcomes everyone from beginners to experienced competitors, as long as they respect the rules and other members.
