Full description and what we offer
Kyudo is one of the oldest arts in Japanese contemplative warriorship. Unlike sport archery where hitting the target is the competition, Kyudo is a long-term discipline where you gradually see your own mind at the moment of release.
"Kyudo is not just about drawing the bow... within this practice, to acquire a good heart, and to achieve dignity in one's shooting is what is sought." — Kanjuro Shibata XX
For every practitioner, Kyudo carries different meaning. Some face their fear of confrontation. Others learn the difficulty of letting go. Many find stress relief through the meditative process of shooting the ya (arrow)—quieting the mind, polishing the spirit.
Regular weekly instruction covers: - Meditation practice - Equipment care and maintenance - Multiple traditional archery forms - Grounding in the principles behind each form
Teaching is kept simple and thoughtful so students develop real skill in Kyudo forms while understanding the philosophy driving them.
