The Los Alamos Sportsmen's Club started in October 1947 when local citizens needed a safe place to shoot. What began as a small group using a downtown building evolved into one of northern New Mexico's most active shooting facilities. The club moved to Rendija Canyon in the early 1960s and has expanded significantly since then.

Work Credit Program: Every member can reduce their annual dues by up to $96 by volunteering. Each hour of work = $12 credit. Senior members automatically get 6 hours ($72) of credit per year.
The club offers several Hunter Education classes annually for those preparing to hunt in New Mexico or surrounding states. All instruction emphasizes proper firearm handling, safety fundamentals, and marksmanship. Instructors are certified through the NRA, New Mexico Game & Fish, and other recognized programs.
LASC depends entirely on member volunteer work—estimated at 2,000 hours per typical year. The club holds semi-annual cleanup days (last Saturday of April, fourth Saturday of October) where members contribute to facility maintenance. Acceptable volunteer work includes:
