Dakota West Outfitters operates a four-seasons guide service based in Minot, North Dakota, serving hunters and anglers across North Central ND. Located on Lake Sakakawea—North Dakota's largest lake—they specialize in matching clients with the right experience at the right time of year.
Spring Snow Geese Hunting (March–April) Follow the spring migration under large, realistic decoy spreads. The guides put clients under moving decoys designed to trigger response from migrating flocks heading to nesting grounds. Price: $250/gun/day (50% deposit required).
Fall Waterfowl: Duck & Goose Hunting (August–December) The guides scout constantly through the migration, logging miles to locate fresh birds. They use quality decoys and are experienced callers. Most hunts operate from the Minot area.

Dark House Spearing (November 15–March 15) Spear fishing for pike and walleye on Lake Sakakawea near Garrison, ND. The outfitters provide heated ice houses setup specifically for spearing, plus all equipment—spears, decoys, rods, reels, and bait. Pike fishing is particularly strong here; the lake remains largely untapped by pike anglers compared to walleye-focused competitors.
Valid North Dakota fishing license required. Register at gf.nd.gov before participating in dark house spear or bow fishing.
Tyler Heringer is a lifelong North Dakota resident and professional guide with 5+ years of experience. A dedicated tournament walleye angler with significant local tournament success, he specializes in walleye and waterfowl hunting.
Brandon Wald is a North Dakota native living in the Minot area and owner of Wald's Lawn and Snow Service (20+ years in business). He's been a tournament fisherman since youth and maintains a lake cabin at Brendles Bay.
For open water trips, the guides recommend renting cabins at Brendles Bay (their launch point) or New Town.
Hotel options in New Town: - 4Bears Casino and Lodge - Little Missouri Inn and Suites - Teddys Residential Suites
For winter trips, sleeper houses and Snobear trips eliminate the need for separate accommodations.
Consistent success comes from constant scouting. The guides log significant miles each season tracking migration patterns and seasonal fish locations. They provide all equipment—rods, reels, decoys, spearing gear, heating, and chairs—so clients show up ready to hunt or fish. Whether you're a seasoned angler in a tournament circuit or looking for your first guided experience, they work with all skill levels.
