01 // DETAILS
Full description and what we offer
BAT Firearms Training is built on serious real-world experience. Owner and lead instructor Tom Gwinn spent 15 years with the Ohio State Highway Patrol—first as a Trooper, then as a Sergeant—investigating crimes, managing crash scenes, and leading patrol operations. Before that, he served as a U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Sergeant and Desert Storm veteran (1986–1994). He's also a former Ohio Peace Officer Training Instructor who mentored law enforcement personnel in ethics, tactical response, and emergency procedures.
Co-instructor Zack Gorsuch brings 18+ years as a U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer, where he built and led advanced weapons safety and tactical training programs. He's trained hundreds of service members—from recruits to elite operational teams—on live-fire operations and small arms proficiency. He's a certified Master Training Specialist and Navy Range Safety Officer with expertise across pistol, rifle, shotgun, and crew-served weapons systems.
Certified instructors: Both instructors hold NRA certifications (pistol, rifle, range safety officer). Gwinn carries credentials from his law enforcement training background; Gorsuch from his Navy service and specialized weapons programs.
This isn't generic firearms instruction. The team combines 15+ years of law enforcement patrol and investigation with 18+ years of military weapons training leadership. They've trained under real operational pressure—not just classroom theory. Their curriculum focuses on competence, confidence, and readiness from day one, with accountability built into every session.
Gwinn's background in officer development and scene management means he understands what actually works under stress. Gorsuch's experience designing training for elite teams (including Special Warfare units) means the instruction cuts through fluff and delivers measurable results.
