LMG doesn't post flat rates because almost everything they do is custom. Labor is billed hourly:
Turnaround times vary based on workload. As of recent years, typical jobs take 1-4 weeks, but complex builds can take longer during busy periods. They actively manage expectations and won't promise quick turnaround just to get work in the door.
Matthew Hardoerfer's real expertise is in AK variants and other Eastern Bloc systems. If you have a Chinese SKS, Yugoslavian WASR, Russian SLR, or similar platform that needs real gunsmith attention, this is the shop. He understands gas systems, receiver geometry, and the specific requirements of stamped vs. milled actions—knowledge that separates real gunsmiths from mall ninjas.
Common AK projects include: - Gas block/front sight combo installations - Barrel chopping and gas port relocation - Folding brace adapter drilling and tapping - Left-side safety modifications (stamped receivers) - Receiver modification for alternative magazine compatibility
Unlike drop-in parts that "work most of the time," Matt's 1911 work involves actual fitting. That beaver tail might need frame work. That trigger/hammer combo might require polishing contact points. Parts get degreased, inspected, and fitted to spec—not just assembled.
"Sometimes it may take 1-1.5hrs just to fit the frame if necessary. We also will want to coat that cut so it doesn't oxidize." — Matt on beaver tail installation
LMG prefers direct email contact because shop volume is high and phone coverage isn't guaranteed.
Matthew's honest about time estimates and won't undersell jobs to get them in the door. A complex 1911 fitting might take 3-4 hours, not 1 hour. AK barrel chops involve gas system calculations, not just cutting. This approach means slower turnaround sometimes, but it means work that actually functions correctly.
They're also pragmatic. Need internal shotgun threading? They'll tell you Briley does it better and refer you there. Thinking about bluing an AKM? They'll explain why parkerizing or paint is the correct finish for that rifle. This straightforward approach has built them a solid regional reputation among serious shooters who understand the difference between a gunsmith and someone with a drill press.
