The Tualatin Valley Sportsmen's Club (TVSC) was incorporated in 1948 and has spent the last seven decades building what amounts to the Pacific Northwest's most comprehensive shooting facility. This is a non-profit 501(c)(4) operation—not a commercial range—with a crystal-clear mission: preserve and develop 230+ acres as a firearms practice range and training facility while stewarding the property's wildlife and natural resources.
TVSC isn't just another shooting range. The club actively maintains relationships with local law enforcement, the Oregon Department of Corrections, Washington and Multnomah Sheriff's Departments, and the Marine Corps Reserves—making it an essential community training resource. TVSC leadership also founded the Oregon Association of Shooting Ranges in 2003 to help shooting ranges across the state address community and environmental concerns.
The property sits in an Exclusive Forest Conservation District designated by the State of Oregon. This means everything TVSC does—from range development to noise abatement—happens within strict environmental standards.
Action Range - 200, 300, 600-yard high-power rifle shooting - 100-yard general purpose rifle range - Skeet and trap shooting - Sporting clays - Precision pistol (25-30 firing points, 25 and 50-yard targets) - Indoor .22 rimfire and air gun range
All ranges feature covered firing positions, multiple safety baffles, and high berms for noise control. The precision pistol range is ADA-accessible.
TVSC is completing the largest project in club history—a 35-acre Lower Range Complex (LRC) designed with serious noise reduction in mind. Here's how they did it:
Instead of charging members for construction, TVSC negotiated with excavation contractor Northfork Excavation to pay royalties on marketable rock. Those royalties—not member fees—funded the 200/300/600-yard range, the .22 indoor range, the 100-yard general purpose range, backstops, berms, and most roads on the property.
The LRC excavation goes below grade with solid rock walls and berms that reflect sound upward rather than horizontally—dramatically reducing noise to neighboring properties. The project hit unexpected groundwater during excavation, so plans were revised to include water catchment and drainage. The result? Water features now attract deer, birds, waterfowl, and other wildlife.
When completed, the LRC will include: - 13 large action shooting bays (some as deep as 100 yards) - 300-yard range for non-paper targets (steel plates) - Conex positions for short-range shooting - Law enforcement training facilities - Increased parking capacity - Native plants and wildlife habitat restoration
TVSC's relationships with surrounding communities—Sherwood, Tualatin, Washington County, and the greater Portland Metro Area—are built on a track record of addressing concerns. During LRC excavation, noise complaints prompted additional baffles, berms, and backstops. Completion of the LRC will eliminate the remaining principal off-property noise source from temporary action range operations.
The club's charter explicitly commits to preservation and propagation of beneficial wildlife and natural resources. The LRC water features and native landscaping support the existing wildlife migration corridor while maintaining the safe, quiet shooting facility TVSC's members depend on.
Incorporated in 1948, the Tualatin Valley Sportsmen's Club remains committed to its original charter: preserve, develop, and retain the property as a firearms practice range and training facility.
While TVSC owns and maintains the property, the facility is leased and operated by the Tri County Gun Club, which handles day-to-day range operations and member services.
