Mitchell Gun Club operates as a dedicated shotgun shooting facility at 3 W. Havens Ave, Mitchell, SD 57301. This isn't a retail gun shop—it's a working shooting club built for trap, skeet, and competitive clay target sports.
The facility runs year-round programming:
The Mitchell Trap League runs 16 weeks split into two halves, with practice weeks in April and live competition May through August. Teams are classified into six divisions—AA, A, B, C, and D—based on two qualifying weeks of shooting.

| 1st Half League | May 1 - June 19 |
| State Shoot Break | (makes up week later) |
| 2nd Half League | June 26 - Aug 14 |
| Banquet & Playoffs | Aug 21 |
2025 Fees: - League night: $15/person ($12 for HS and under) - Practice trap: $8/round - Punch card: $80 for 11 rounds (save $1) - Doubles: $15/round - Individual league: $15 per 50 targets - Sponsor fee: $100/year - Secretary fee: $15/year - Shells available: $10/box
Minimum 3 team members required to participate. You can pick up extra shooters to fill out your roster.
Club members shoot at clay discs thrown at 42 mph to simulate flying birds. Shooters call "pull," then attempt to break the 4¼-inch target. In registered ATA competition, targets are thrown 48-52 yards from the trap house, 8-12 feet high. Shooters stand minimum 16 yards back.
You don't need a perfect hit to score—a "dead" bird is a dead bird whether you shatter it or clip a small piece. Shooters verify their own scores after each round.
Beyond regular league play, Mitchell Gun Club hosts:
"We look forward to your visit at our shotgun-only facility here in Mitchell, South Dakota."
Teams compete in their assigned class based on qualifying scores. The highest-scoring team in each division shoots from the farthest yardage (27 yards for AAA/AA, down to 23 yards for D class). Teams that fall behind adjust yardage closer—one yard for every 5 targets behind the leader.
After 8 weeks, first-half winners are declared and scores reset. If different teams win the first and second halves, a shoot-off determines the overall league champion on banquet night.
Shooters who prefer solo competition participate in the individual league (Trap 3), where your top 7 scores are averaged for prizes. Doubles teams shoot Trap 4 and must complete 5 shoots to qualify for awards.
Junior shooters (HS and under) compete in their own division with separate prize eligibility.
The club publishes current team standings, individual averages, and leaderboards on their website. Spectators are welcome at shoots and league nights.
