Full description and what we offer
Long Shot Indoor Range represents the merger of two established names in South Puget Sound firearms: Countyline Shooting Sports (originally founded 14 years ago in a converted "gun church" at 35502 State Route 507) and Pearson Arms, an Olympia-based gunsmithing operation run by Jason Pearson, a former Department of Defense electronic engineer.
The new entity launched its expansion with a move to Yelm in 2020, occupying the 8,300-square-foot facility at 16910 State Route 507—formerly Get Fit Yelm. This is Phase One of a three-phase master plan.
Long Shot operates under four pillars:
Phase Two includes a projected $7M+ investment in a large indoor shooting range—designed to be nationally recognized purely for its size. The owners are actively locking down investors for this expansion.
Long Shot's leadership deliberately chose Yelm and the I-5 corridor. As owner David Swetz explained: "It's growing, it's up and coming. We see development happening all over the place." They wanted visibility to traveling recreationalists and a location where they could contribute to community development—not just operate in a bedroom town.
Moving from Pierce County to Thurston County also streamlines operations. The Thurston County Sheriff's Office processes background checks faster than Pierce County—in some cases twice as fast—which directly impacts transaction speed and customer experience.
During the 2020 pandemic surge, Long Shot (like all firearms retailers) faced severe ammunition shortages. Ammunition manufacturers were running 24/7 and still couldn't keep up with demand. The shop even closed temporarily on March 22, 2020, due to low inventory and shipment delays.
"Ammunition is actually the biggest pain trying to find right now. My understanding is that the manufacturers are at capacity as far as the manufacturing goes, and they're running 24/7 and still can't keep up with the demand." — David Swetz
The owners note that demand spikes align with political cycles, pandemic fears, and major legislation like Washington's Initiative 1639 (which raised the age to purchase some firearms from 18 to 21 and expanded background checks).

Long Shot is positioning itself as more than a retail shop—they're building an "end destination" for shooters in the Nisqually Valley and greater South Puget Sound region.
