Hollow Point Defensive Shooters (HPDS) is an International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) affiliated shooting club based in Rio, Wisconsin, operating out of the Portage Rod and Gun Club since 2011. HPDS creates a safe, fun environment for America's shooting sports while emphasizing real-world defensive training tactics and marksmanship techniques. The club is dedicated to educating members in constitutional Second Amendment rights through practical, scenario-based instruction.
IDPA Matches & Training: - Monthly IDPA-sanctioned competitive matches (typically 3rd Saturday, April–October) - Monthly training and practice sessions (1st Saturday, April–October) - Special events including IDPA Classifiers, BUG Matches, and Outlaw-style pistol competitions - Basic Handgun Training Classes available to Portage Rod and Gun Club members

HPDS welcomes shooters of all experience levels. Membership is affordable at $25 annually, and equipment requirements are minimal—start with a handgun, holster, and three magazines. The club emphasizes that competitors don't need expensive specialized gear; practical, concealed-carry-suitable firearms are the focus.
Matches and training sessions are held at Portage Rod and Gun Club (W10450 Hwy 16, Portage, WI 53901). All HPDS members must also maintain active memberships at the host facility for insurance purposes. Setup begins at 7–8 AM with activities running through mid-day.
The club leadership team includes certified instructors from the National Rifle Association, Department of Defense, Wisconsin Department of Corrections, and IDPA, ensuring professional-quality training and safe event management.
