Full description and what we offer
B&B Taxidermy has been mounting trophies in Houston since Mike Baird started the business in 1983. What began as a two-person operation with Mike and his partner Leonard Bayer has grown into a nationally recognized shop trusted by hunters, outfitters, and collectors across the U.S. and internationally.
B&B handles three main services:
Mike Baird started hunting at age 5 and took his first taxidermy class in 1979. He's spent four decades studying animal anatomy and behavior in the wild, which shows in every piece that leaves the shop. His wife Jo has been managing operations since they started in 1983.
Their son Frank now leads the shop alongside his wife Kristin, specializing in large custom mounts. The team includes:
| Specialist | Focus | Experience |
|---|---|---|
| Fernando | African game specialist | Since 1990, trained by Mike Baird |
| Alex | All animals, birds to crocodiles | Since 1996 |
| Thomas | Whitetail specialist | 25+ years, based in Shiro |
| Daniel | In-house bird taxidermist | Detail work, habitat bases, water scenes |
| Chapa | Exotics and whitetails | Accomplished in all mounts |
| Jared | Horns and European mounts | Military background, skilled in base work |
| Chris | Finishing work and rug mounts | Specializes in detailed repairs |
Drop-off Locations: Main shop in Houston plus locations in Bellville and Shiro for convenience.
You bring your trophy to B&B (or drop it at one of their three locations). The team skins and preps the animal, sends it to the tannery, checks it back in, and assigns it to the right taxidermist. From there, they mount it to anatomically accurate specifications and add finishing touches—bases, habitats, lighting, everything.
Custom dioramas go beyond simple mounting. They create realistic environments: water scenes for waterfowl, natural poses for game animals, authentic backdrops that make the mount come alive.
Main Location: 11030 Jones Rd West, Houston, TX 77065 (281) 469-2920
All credit card sales require a 3% processing fee. B&B accepts all major credit card providers.
B&B works with local businesses and outfitters: - Bellville Meat Market - Midway Meat Market - GSell's Whitetails - Rockwater Adventures - Republic Boot Company - Circle Star Firearms
What separates B&B is their focus on realism and respect for the animal. Every taxidermist on the team studies wildlife behavior and anatomy. They know what a whitetail looks like when alert, what an African lion's posture should be, how feathers should lay on a waterfowl. That attention shows in mounts that look like the animal could move at any moment.
They're also constantly learning and innovating. The shop keeps evolving its techniques and options for how to mount trophies—whether that's traditional shoulder mounts, full-body pieces, horn displays, or elaborate dioramas.
Frank Baird and his wife Kristin represent the future of B&B. Frank handles the technical side—custom mounts and client projects. Kristin manages social media and attends shows, keeping the brand connected to its customers. Their two sons, Hunter and Hudson, are already growing up in the shop, learning the values of craftsmanship and conservation.
