Arrowhead Outfitters has been flying hunters into Alaska's Northern Brooks Range since 1981. The operation moved under new ownership focused on customer service, but kept the same core mission: get you to prime caribou country and let you hunt.
Your hunt starts at their base camp near Deadhorse (MP 366.5 on the Dalton Highway, about 445 miles north of Fairbanks). Float planes depart from Desiree' Lake just north of camp. The service includes:
Hunt Details: - Location: Northern Brooks Range/North Slope - Season: August 3-27 - Duration: 7-10 days (hunter's choice) - Self-guided (no guide service offered) - Success Rate: 90% averaged over past 6 seasons (2020-2025)
| Year | Per Hunter |
|---|---|
| 2026 | $5,995 |
| 2027 | $6,495 |
| 2028 | $6,995 |
Camp equipment rental packages available if you don't have your own gear. Includes tents (4 or 6 man), cots, sleeping pads, camp stove, cookware, and essentials. Pick up in Fairbanks early August.
Most hunters fly commercially to Fairbanks, rent a vehicle, stock supplies (Fairbanks is your last resupply), then drive the Dalton Highway to base camp. Cold Foot has fuel and food at MP 175. Many arrive the night before departure for orientation and to meet the team. Your vehicle stays secure at base camp while you hunt.
Arrowhead uses a "Max Payload" system—your party gets a total weight allowance including body weight, equipment, and supplies:
Your group decides how to distribute it. Field communication via Garmin InReach or Zoleo devices encouraged.
Arrowhead operates two high-performance Maule aircraft, both flown by experienced pilots. The operation is family-owned and has transported thousands of hunters over 45 years.
Black bears aren't available during carbou season. You must be an Alaska resident or hunt with next of kin to pursue grizzly without a guide. Many bring collapsible fishing gear or a small rifle for ptarmigan.
