Full description and what we offer

Field & Stream is a national publishing brand, not a firearms retailer or local gun shop. The business operates as a media company producing content about hunting, fishing, camping, and outdoor survival.

Field & Stream publishes:

  • Print Magazine - Two issues per year (Spring and Fall) delivered to subscribers' doors
  • Digital Content - Hundreds of articles covering hunting tactics, gear reviews, and fishing techniques
  • Expert Journalism - Staff writers including Shooting Editor Richard Mann, Shotguns Editor Phil Bourjaily, and Hunting Editor Will Brantley
  • 1871 Club Membership - Subscription program that includes print journals, $15 merchandise rewards, and access to an exclusive members-only store
  • Product Reviews - Detailed testing and evaluation of firearms, optics, ammunition, and hunting gear
  • Educational Guides - How-to content on everything from tip-up ice fishing to riflescope selection

Field & Stream started in 1871 when the Gordon & Ferguson Merchandizing Company—originally an outerwear manufacturer—began selling clothing under the Field & Stream brand from St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1895, two hunting buddies launched the magazine, first called "Northwestern Field & Stream: A Journal of the Rifle, Gun, Rod and Camera." The title shortened to simply "Field & Stream" two years later.

In 2023, the brand underwent a major consolidation when media rights and licensing rights came under one corporate roof for the first time in its history.

Guns & Ammunition - New firearm releases (shotguns, rifles, pistols) - Ammunition reviews and ballistics data - Optics and scope technology (FFP vs SFP comparisons) - Firearm recommendations for specific hunting applications

Hunting - Game bird identification (Gambel's Quail, Pintail Ducks) - Hunting tactics and strategy - Best hunting locations by game type - Seasonal hunting guides

Fishing - Ice fishing techniques (tip-ups, trap fishing) - Species-specific instruction (trout, bass, bluegill, walleye, pike) - Catch-and-release best practices - Gear recommendations for different fishing styles

Outdoor Gear - Gift guides for hunters and anglers - Equipment reviews (walkie talkies, hunting apparel) - Seasonal gear recommendations

  • Hotel Chain - A network of properties designed specifically for hunters and anglers
  • F&S Music Fest - A country music festival for the outdoor community
  • Retail Partnerships - Tractor Supply Co., Amazon, and other major retailers

  • Important Note: Field & Stream is a media company producing content about firearms and hunting—not a business that sells firearms, ammunition, or hunting gear to consumers. Their content frequently links to retailers like Palmetto State Armory, Guns.com, Academy Sports, and other actual FFLs where readers can purchase the products reviewed.
