01 // RIGHT NOW
Before you do anything else — before you clean it, store it, or show it to anyone — read and memorize these four rules.
Treat every firearm as if it's loaded.
Never point at anything you aren't willing to destroy.
Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire.
Be sure of your target and what's beyond it.
Every firearm needs to be secured when not in use. Trigger locks and cable locks are inexpensive starting points. A quick-access bedside safe gives you fast access while keeping unauthorized hands out. A full-size gun safe is the gold standard for long-term storage and multiple firearms.
Store ammunition separately from firearms when possible. Many safes include internal storage — use it.
If you have children in the home, a quick-access safe is not optional. Trigger locks alone are not sufficient.
02 // RIGHT NOW
Gun laws vary dramatically by state. What's legal in Idaho may be restricted in California. Know the rules before you carry, transport, or buy.
Every state has its own rules on concealed carry, open carry, magazine capacity limits, NFA items, and purchase requirements. Constitutional carry states let you carry without a permit — but 22+ states require a background check on private sales. Traveling across state lines? The rules change at every border.
Even in constitutional carry states, getting your CCW permit is worth it. It grants reciprocity in more states, speeds up dealer purchases (no NICS wait), and demonstrates responsible ownership.
