Friends of NRA operates as a 100% volunteer-driven fundraising program that supports The NRA Foundation's mission. The organization raises funds through events and donations, then distributes grants to shooting sports programs that otherwise wouldn't have the resources to operate or expand.
"Thanks to Friends of NRA fundraising, NRA Foundation grants have made a meaningful impact on shooting sports communities nationwide. Thousands of people across the country have benefited, and hundreds have been introduced to the shooting sports for the first time thanks to these grants."
Friends of NRA grants fund everything from equipment to ammunition to travel expenses:
| Program | Location | Award | Impact |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ketchikan Junior Shotgun League | Alaska | $13,640 | Travel & shotgun shells for state/regional tournaments |
| Hilo High Vikings Air Riflery | Hawaii | $15,000 | Air rifles, scopes, stands for team development |
| Clarion County Youth Field Day | Pennsylvania | $3,000 | Youth ages 8-12: firearm safety, shooting sports, outdoor education |
| Collingsworth County 4-H | Texas | $2,300 | Trap/skeet range expansion for youth programs |
| Marathon High School Trap Team | New York | $2,400+ | 25 flats of 12-gauge shells for spring season |
Friends of NRA grants support:
- •Youth shooting teams (trap, skeet, air rifle, smallbore)
- •Eddie Eagle firearm safety programs
- •Women on Target initiatives
- •NRA Youth Education Summit
- •Police and law enforcement training
- •Community shooting sports events
- •Equipment, ammunition, and facility improvements
Friends of NRA runs on volunteers. You can attend local fundraising events, volunteer, or donate directly to support grants in your area.
- •Find local Friends of NRA events near you
- •Volunteer with fundraising efforts
- •Donate to specific programs
- •Sponsor nationally or at the corporate level
The organization emphasizes that grant recipients often can't fund youth shooting programs without this support—especially with rising ammunition costs and equipment expenses.
