Jerry Kunzman opened 29 Outdoor Gear in 2014 after 30 years of shopping Bay Area gun shops and getting tired of the experience. His goal was simple: create an inviting, friendly shop with knowledgeable staff that doesn't rush you.

Paul Caulkett heads the gunsmithing operation as a master gunsmith (since 2013) and military armorer. The shop maintains several gunsmiths to handle complex builds and repairs. Kassandra Beale manages firearms compliance and records.

Kunzman makes a point to read California gun laws himself rather than rely on lobbying talking points from either side. The relaxed, unrushed environment is intentional—they'll spend time with you whether you're picking your first gun or ordering a custom build. Multiple master gunsmiths on staff means complex work gets handled in-house, not outsourced.
