CA-IDPA Shooters runs IDPA action pistol matches, hosted by Fastpath Firearms Training, LLC. The matches simulate self-defense scenarios for concealed carry holders, testing use of cover, multiple target engagement, drawing from concealment and rapid reloading. Shooters must already have these skills; the club does not teach draw-from-holster technique at the match itself. Long guns are permitted only as pistol caliber carbines in 9mm, .357 Sig, .40 S&W, 10mm or .45 ACP.
New shooters must attend a New Shooter briefing before their first match, where staff cover range rules. Minimum gear includes a pistol of at least 9mm or a revolver of at least .38 Special with a barrel of 4 inches or less, a strong side hip holster covering the trigger guard, a magazine pouch holding two magazines, a sturdy belt, a concealment garment, and eye and hearing protection. Drop-leg, pocket, shoulder, small-of-the-back and appendix holsters are not permitted at this match.
