
Canada's Carney government has extended its gun ban amnesty for the fourth time, suspending criminal liability for owners of 2,500+ banned firearm types until at least 90 days after the Supreme Court rules on whether the 2020 ban was lawful. The Canadian Coalition for Firearm Rights, backed by three provincial governments, argues Ottawa overstepped its authority with a cabinet-only decree. The voluntary buyback is still proceeding, but compliance numbers are well below initial projections.
