Own European mounts?
01 // DETAILS
Full description and what we offer
Rocky Mountain Head Hunters does one thing and does it right: European skull mounts and taxidermy. Located in Fort Collins, Colorado, they've spent over 15 years perfecting the craft of preserving your hunt.
Instead of boiling skulls—which causes cracking, brittleness, and traps grease deep in the bone—RMHH uses hundreds of thousands of dermestid beetles. This is the same method museums use to clean skeletons. The beetles remove every spec of tissue, leaving the skull intact and ready for the next critical step.
"We use dermestid beetles to clean our skulls, this is the same method museum curators use to clean and prepare skeletons."
After beetle cleaning comes weeks to months in specially formulated degreasing baths. This is the longest and most important step—it removes grease and oil from the bone to ensure a clean white skull that stays that way for years. Once degreased, the skull is whitened with bone-safe chemicals, sealed, and mounted.
