Full description and what we offer

Gray Taxidermy has been mounting trophy fish for over 50 years—turning catches into museum-quality pieces that hang on walls from Florida to Hawaii to Manitoba. When you land a sailfish, marlin, dorado, or any saltwater trophy, they recreate that moment with detail so precise that anglers swear the scales still have water on them.

What gets mounted here: Billfish (sailfish, marlin, swordfish), sharks (hammerhead, tiger, white tip), saltwater gamefish (wahoo, dorado, mahi-mahi, tarpon), freshwater species, baitfish, and custom wave mounts with the fish suspended in action.

Gray doesn't just slap paint on a fiberglass form. Their crew handles:

  • Molding & fiberglass work from your measurements and photos
  • Custom painting that nails the exact coloration your fish had in the water (not the faded colors after being out)
  • Detail finishing where scales, fins, and gill work get hand-attention
  • Museum-grade crating for shipping—clients report boxes arriving in perfect condition even when UPS damages the exterior
  • Repairs and restorations if an older mount needs color refresh or structural fixes

Turnaround is typically 3 months. Yes, that's longer than most shops. They acknowledge it. Clients don't care—they're ordering their second, third, and fifth mounts.

Triopic Star Lodge in Panama has used Gray for 20+ years. Charter captains from the Florida Keys, Kona, Jamaica, and beyond send every client fish here. Captain Jim Sharpe (Sea Boots Charters) has been sending mounts for 30 years—his living room displays a 468-pound blue marlin his son caught at 18, a 55-pound dolphin his wife caught on Mother's Day, and other family catches that are literally irreplaceable.

Raleigh Werking, VP of Tropic Star Lodge and multi-IGFA World Record holder, has all his personal world record fish mounted by Gray. His 120-pound and 141.5-pound Pacific sailfish (both caught on 4-pound test) are displayed at Bass Pro's Outdoor World and IGFA Headquarters in Dania Beach, Florida.

"In almost 40 years of doing business with Gray, I've not received one complaint due to poor workmanship or condition in shipping." — Captain Skip Bradeen, Blue Chip Too Charters, Islamorada, Florida Keys

Don't expect corporate speak in their testimonials. Real anglers write things like:

  • "When I opened the box, my jaw dropped." (Bill Turner, golden hammerhead)
  • "My wife said I should hang it in the garage, but when it arrived she understood why. She was very impressed." (Rich)
  • "It looks like the real scales and skin. This may be the only billfish I ever catch." (Marc Swienton)
  • "I have 65 mounts from 3 countries. With taxidermy, you get what you pay for. This sailfish has surpassed them all." (Jeffrey A. Kelley)

One charter boat captain in Hawaii: "In Kona, my wife and I have more trophy game fish than anyone else in our Honokohau Harbor. Never once has there been a complaint on a trophy from Gray. Customer service is impeccable—especially Sandy, who's been with Gray as long as I have."

When a customer received a mount with sizing issues from their first order, Joe and the Gray team didn't argue about whose fault it was—they fixed it. "Now I explain to everyone the mix-up, and what a great company you all are by fixing it, regardless of the blame." (Edgar Nevarez, Los Cabos)

  • The bottom line: If your fish is worth the effort to land, it's worth mounting by people who've spent 50 years perfecting the art. The wait is real. The quality is why captains keep coming back.
