Founded in 1959 by Henry S. Baldyga, Mattabassett Rifle and Pistol Club (MRPC) has been a central hub for Connecticut shooters for over six decades. The club was formally incorporated in Connecticut on December 21, 1966, and takes its name from the American Indian tribe that inhabited the Berlin and Farmington areas.
MRPC sponsors numerous events and competition shoots throughout the year, open to members of the public. Their signature event is the Annual Turkey Shoots, held every Sunday from the second Sunday in October through the Sunday before Thanksgiving, starting at 10:00 AM.
Turkey Shoot format: Each shooter receives one shotgun shell (12, 20, or .410 gauge) and a paper target with a crosshair pattern. Whoever's bb hole lands closest to the center wins a Stop and Shop gift certificate. Entry fee is $3.00 per round.
Competition shoots run rain or shine (though the club reserves the right to cancel for any reason). Skill level doesn't matter—shoots are designed for everyone from beginner to expert.
The club currently operates at maximum membership capacity. New members must be sponsored by a current member to apply. Interested shooters are added to a waiting list in order received, and invited to join when openings become available.
Beckley Mills Road, Berlin, CT (approximately 1/2-3/4 mile from major road access)
