Heels & Holsters started with a simple idea: women deserve a safe, judgment-free space to learn firearms skills and self-defense. Founded in 2014 and based in Lake Mary, Florida, this independent club has grown into a vibrant community where women from all backgrounds gather to shoot, train, and support each other.
The group meets monthly at locations including Gander Mountain in Lake Mary. Each session combines education on a rotating topic—from concealed carry law to prepping to self-defense tactics—followed by hands-on range time where members practice and develop their skills.
Andrea (Andy) Tolbert serves as founder and lead instructor. She's an NRA-certified instructor, USCCA-certified instructor, and certified to teach the SAFE course through the National Self Defense Institute. She's also trained in Assault Counter Tactics and the WAVE (Women Against Violence Everywhere) Program, and is pursuing her Certified Crime Practitioner designation through the Florida Attorney General's Office.
Andy's background spans real estate, firearms consulting for film and TV productions, and professional instruction. Her teaching style is laid-back with a focus on practical skill-building that doesn't require major lifestyle changes.

Members consistently praise the supportive atmosphere. Carolyn Wilson notes: "I love coming to the monthly meetings! There was a lot I already knew, but Andy has taught me so much. She is an excellent instructor." Another member added: "What a great group of women! I love learning & shooting with this group."
Julia Ce describes the group's value: "Heels & Holsters is a woman's shooting group that meets once a month. Andy is extremely knowledgeable about firearm safety, different calibers of guns and ammunition, concealed carry law and self defense. I joined a few years ago when I decided I wanted to learn to be comfortable and capable with a handgun. I had no clue how much I would learn."
Upcoming meetings feature hands-on demos and rotating topics. Past discussions have covered concealed carry during holidays, lessons from law enforcement shootouts, partner training, and virtual reality shooting systems like the ACE shooting system.
The club has also been active in media. Andy appeared on USA Today and local news outlets including Fox 35 and the Sanford Herald discussing women and firearms training.
