Full description and what we offer
7 Legacy Taxidermy & Skull Mounts operates out of Fruitland, Idaho, focusing on European skull mounts and custom taxidermy work that hunters actually want to display. Owner Nate Main brings a hunting background and respect for the animals—you're not dealing with a factory operation.
Here's the difference between a skull that stays white and one that yellows in five years: de-greasing. 7 Legacy makes this the centerpiece of their process. They don't boil skulls. Instead, they use proven methods to remove soft tissue, then spend the time necessary on proper de-greasing. This isn't rushed. If a skull isn't properly de-greased, it will yellow no matter how white it looks when you pick it up. This is what they actually focus on.
Their process: - Hide removal (or accept skulls already stripped) - Soft tissue removal using multiple methods (no boiling) - De-greasing—the critical step - Whitening agents for final finish
All display pieces are made in-house. Whether you need a simple pedestal, a habitat mount, or something completely custom, bring the idea and they'll build it. Their pack frames are a client favorite—hardwood construction with your choice of stain color, canvas type, and hardware.
If you're shipping a cervid (deer, elk, moose) from out of state, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game has mandatory cleaning standards:
Your cervid skull must be without brain matter BEFORE shipping. Power wash it thoroughly.
Preparation steps: - Remove all brain matter and power wash - Double bag and seal thoroughly - Ensure no spinal materials attached - Mark package as "TAXIDERMY ITEMS" per federal law - Freeze before shipping - Wrap in newspaper to absorb moisture - Place in plastic bags, zip tie shut - Ship in plastic tote or cooler - Include packing list on outside of package - Use FedEx, UPS, or U.S. Mail
Any out-of-state cervids that don't meet these standards will be returned at the owner's expense. They won't accept them otherwise.
