Full description and what to expect
The 2026 Western Regional IDPA Championship is a defensive pistol shooting competition hosted at Boise Gun Club. IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Association) matches test your ability to draw, move, and shoot accurately under time pressure—simulating real-world defensive scenarios.
Competitors navigate multiple stages featuring different shooting positions, movement patterns, and target arrays. You'll shoot from behind cover, at various distances, and while moving. The clock is running, but accuracy matters just as much as speed. Every shot placement counts.
This is a regional championship, so expect competitors ranging from serious club shooters to experienced IDPA members. Whether you're working toward your first IDPA classification or chasing a regional title, this event draws dedicated shooters from across the western region.
Participants should be comfortable with their defensive pistol and have basic shooting fundamentals down. If you regularly practice at a local range and understand safe gun handling, you have what it takes to compete.
IDPA matches typically include 5-7 stages, each with 8-12 rounds downrange. Shooters are divided into divisions based on gun type and equipment (Stock Service Pistol, Enhanced Service Pistol, Custom Defensive Pistol, and others). You'll be scored on both accuracy and speed—misses and penalties are costly.
Boise Gun Club provides the range facilities and infrastructure needed to run a regional-level match. Multiple bays allow stages to be set up and run smoothly throughout the competition day.
