Full description and what we offer
CS Taxidermy LLC, located at 7824 W. 200 N. in Larwill, Indiana, handles custom taxidermy work for hunters across the region. Owner Cody Saggars runs the operation and takes on everything from caping to final mount.
Unlike shops that outsource the prep work, Cody will cape your deer himself if you bring it in fresh. This means he controls the quality from field to finish. He'll handle the initial skinning, which requires precision—too far forward and you lose material, too far back and you waste hide. If you can't get to the shop within 12 hours, freeze the head immediately in a sealed bag to stop hair slippage.
At the 2024 Association of Indiana Taxidermist Show, CS Taxidermy's custom deer mount competed against the best in the state. The work shows attention to detail—when the cape didn't fit the form quite right, Cody cut pieces and reassembled them to match the customer's specific deer. That's the kind of custom problem-solving that separates this shop.
For Shoulder Mounts (Mammals): 1. Cut behind the front legs in a circle 2. Cut around each leg a couple inches below the elbow, then cut from the elbow to the midsection cut 3. Loosen the skin around the neck and roll it down 4. Cut the head from the neck 5. Bag the head and freeze it 6. Never cut the throat or in front of the shoulders
Critical Rules: - Freeze the hide immediately—don't let it sit out - Once blood stops flowing, bacteria attack hair follicles (even at 45°F) - Don't place directly on ice or in water (causes slippage) - If using ice, seal the bag completely to prevent water contact
For European Mounts: - Get the head to CS Taxidermy within 3 days if not frozen - Keep hide on, wrap in multiple trash bags, store airtight for long-term freezing - Keep in a cool place—don't leave in sun - Remove the brain if shipping out of state - Check local wildlife regulations before shipping - Be careful when separating skull from vertebrae (knife marks on bone are permanent)

Call as soon as you get your trophy down. Timing is critical. If you need caping help, Cody will do it, but it has to happen quickly. Bring your hunting license number and confirmation/tag numbers when you arrive.
CS Taxidermy takes the field-to-mount process seriously. They publish detailed care guides on their site for different mount types because they know most damage happens before the deer arrives. Improper caping, freezing, or storage can ruin the hide and add rotting fees to your final cost. Cody's philosophy is simple: start right in the field, and the mount comes out right.
