Location details and information

Founded in 2009, the American Hunting Lease Association exists to solve one problem: protecting hunters, hunt clubs, and landowners in the growing fee hunting industry. They're not a gun store or a range—they're the organization that handles the legal and financial side of private land hunting.

The AHLA provides three core insurance products:

  • Hunting Lease (Club) Insurance – Liability coverage for every member of your hunt club, all landowners, and guest hunters
  • Landowner Vacant Land Coverage – General liability for property owners who lease hunting rights
  • Guides and Outfitters Insurance – Professional liability for hunting guides and outfitter operations

All policies are produced by Assured Partners and rated A+ Excellent by A.M. Best—meaning the coverage is solid and the carrier is stable.

When you buy a hunting lease policy through AHLA, you get more than just insurance. Your membership includes:

  • Custom Hunting Lease Agreement – Time-tested, attorney-reviewed contract template you can customize for your specific situation
  • Online Account Management – Track your leases and policies in one place
  • Certificate of Insurance – Emailed within 24 hours (M-F), instantly available in your account
  • Flexible Coverage – Up to 7 landowners covered at no additional cost

What's Covered: - Every hunter listed on your lease - Guest liability coverage - Tree stand and ATV hunting liability - Fire damage ($100,000) - Medical payments ($5,000) - Legal defense costs (even if the suit is groundless) - No deductible

What's NOT Covered: - Commercial hunting operations or subleasing - Vehicle use (non-hunting related) - Aircraft, pollution, workers comp - Intentional or criminal acts

"I'm hoping you guys will be around a long time. With times as hard as they are here, we need insurance that is fairly priced and hopefully the most important thing, there if we actually need it." – Chris Porche, The Point Hunting Club

Unlike most insurance, AHLA offers 12 master policies—one starting on the first of every month. So if your lease starts in April, you pick the April policy. Coverage begins the next business day after payment. Rates don't change based on start date, and you can renew with just a date update.

  • No prorated refunds – If you cancel mid-term, premiums are 100% earned. This isn't a bug; it's how they keep rates low.

Their hunting lease template has been time-tested for over 22 years and is reviewed by attorneys representing both hunters and landowners. It's:

  • Fully customizable (yellow-highlighted fields you control)
  • Flexible enough for special circumstances
  • Includes a miscellaneous section for landowner-specific provisions
  • Included FREE with your membership

You don't have to submit the lease to AHLA, but you must have a written lease in place for coverage to be active.

You don't need a formal hunt club entity with bylaws. Any group of hunters can get coverage. Both hunters and landowners can purchase policies—the protection covers everyone equally.

If you're part of a hunt club, own land hunters want to lease, or guide hunters on private property—you need written documentation and liability coverage. AHLA gives you both at transparent, fixed rates. Coverage available in all 50 states.
