Location details and information
Elwood Conservation Club operates as a member-funded organization in Elwood, Indiana, about 45 minutes northeast of Indianapolis. This isn't a commercial range trying to maximize profits—it's built and maintained by shooters who use it. That means the rules exist for safety, and they're enforced without exception.
Membership costs $65 per year. You get:
Current Status: The club is NOT accepting new members at this time. Current members can renew memberships by mail, appointment, or at monthly meetings. Contact President John Dougherty at 765-552-3058 or VP Ron Majors at 765-623-8084.
Safety is the foundation. The club enforces three core NRA rules:
1. Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction — even if it fires, it won't cause injury or damage 2. Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot — rest your finger on the trigger guard or side of the gun 3. Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use — engage the safety, remove the magazine, check the chamber
Every shooter must sign in before using the range. Guests must sign a "Release and Hold Harmless Agreement" each time they visit—members are responsible for ensuring this happens. Members sign the agreement when they renew their membership. Breaking range rules can result in expulsion from the club.
Renewal: $65 per year. You'll need: - A completed membership application - A signed Release and Hold Harmless Agreement - Your fee ($65) via check, money order, or exact cash (no credit cards)
If renewing by mail, allow 2-4 weeks for processing. You can access the range while your new card is being mailed if you have documentation of your renewal. Download the renewal application from the club website.
Spouse and Minors: Your spouse is not considered a guest. Children under 18 must have a signed form included when you renew, but they don't count toward your one-guest limit.
Guests: Limited to one guest on club grounds at any time. The guest must be sponsored by you, signed in, and accompanied by you at all times. Any problems caused by your guest become your responsibility—your membership is at risk if a guest violates club rules. Past or delinquent members can only use the range as a sponsored guest.
All membership applications require both a completed application form AND a signed Release and Hold Harmless Agreement. If you mail in your renewal without the agreement, your membership card will be delayed. Current members can renew at:
Do NOT put membership fees or applications in the guest fees slot at the sign-in desk. Contact the club directly.
Monthly meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at 6:00 PM. Members vote on club business, discuss range improvements, and coordinate volunteer work. The club is member-run, meaning upkeep depends on volunteers. If you have time to help maintain the grounds, contact the club to schedule.
Cleanup Days: The last Saturday of every month. Members who participate get a $3 discount on their annual dues for each hour worked.
