Full description and what we offer
The Armory Project (TAP) isn't a gun store or range—it's a nonprofit suicide prevention organization that builds firearm storage infrastructure in your community. Founded by Dr. Gala True (VA) and Caleb Morse (Rustic Renegade, Lafayette, LA), TAP helps gun owners voluntarily store firearms outside the home during times of crisis, then connects them with mental health resources.
TAP operates a network of vetted firearm retailers, ranges, and community partners who agree to safely hold firearms on a temporary, voluntary basis. This gives gun owners a legal, practical option when they're struggling with mental health challenges—removing a barrier that costs lives.
The numbers matter: - 40+ active partners across Louisiana, Arkansas, Kansas, Arizona, and Florida - 10 new partners joined in August 2025 alone - Featured in NSSF's "Have a Brave Conversation" newsletter - Recognized by Project ChildSafe for firearm suicide prevention work
Face the Fight® Grant Award (2025)
TAP was selected as one of 27 nonprofit organizations nationally to receive funding through the Face the Fight® Awards, which distributed $16.5 million in veteran suicide prevention grants. Face the Fight—launched by USAA, Reach Resilience, and the Humana Foundation—has already impacted over 355,000 lives and screened 245,000 veterans.
With this grant support and LSU Health Foundation backing, TAP will expand its capacity to: - Scale firearm storage education and training programs - Reach more veterans and firearm owners - Strengthen peer support networks - Expand access to mental health care
"At The Armory Project, we recognize that responsible gun ownership may include voluntary storage of firearms outside the home during a time of need. Too often, legal uncertainties and liability concerns discourage FFLs from offering this service." — Dr. Gala True

TAP helped establish the first-in-the-nation civil immunity model:
Louisiana (2022) – First state to pass liability relief law protecting FFLs who store firearms temporarily
Arkansas ACT 106 (2025) – Modeled on Louisiana's law, provides civil immunity to federal firearms licensees who agree to store firearms for individuals
These laws remove legal barriers that previously discouraged retailers from offering storage—a critical gap in suicide prevention infrastructure.
