Bayou Airgun Club shoots at the Jean Lafitte Airgun Range on Airline Highway in Baton Rouge, a facility built entirely for airgunning across two courses, Belle Terre and Lagniappe. The club runs field target matches sanctioned by the AAFTA, plus benchrest matches for rifles and pistols in .177, .22 and .25 caliber, fired at distances from 10 meters out to 50 yards on paper and animal-silhouette targets.
Jack and Terry Kirkendoll formed Bayou Airgun Club in 1988 and petitioned the Baton Rouge Recreation and Park Commission that December for a home range; it opened in April 1989 in time for the first Cajun Spring Nationals. The club hosted the National Field Target Championships, now called the Cajun Spring Classic, in 1990 and 1991 and several more times over the following 21 years, drawing shooters from across the country and from Great Britain.
