Detroit Moped Works has spent over a decade building a tight crew around vintage mopeds, modern scooters, and electric bikes. They're located at 5407 Michigan Avenue in Southwest Detroit, open Tuesday–Friday 11am–6pm, Saturday 11am–3:30pm.

- •Vintage mopeds (49cc, pedal-start): Puch, Tomos, Motobecane, Sachs, Peugeot—restored and survivor condition
- •49cc four-stroke scooters: Wolf Brand (RX50, Islander, Lucky 2, Rugby II, V12 200i), Lance/SYM (Mio, Cabo, Havana), IceBear, Ascend, ScootStar
- •E-bikes and electric motorbikes: Monday Motorbikes, Addmotor, Velotric, Heybike, MacFox, Blaupunkt (folding models)
- •Parts and accessories: Fuel systems, ignition, cables, chains, tires, tubes, carbs, gaskets, lights, hardware
- •Apparel and decals: DMW-branded shirts, sweatshirts, caps, patches, pins, custom decal reproductions and originals
Michigan ownership advantage: 49cc scooters typically need only a registration sticker (no title/plate). E-bikes are title-free and plate-free when configured within state guidelines. See product pages for compliance details.
Every unit gets the full shop treatment:

What the $225 tune-up includes:
- •Fuel petcock removal and tank flush
- •New fuel petcock valve, fuel line, fuel filter
- •Carburetor disassembly, clean, and reassembly with idle/air mixture adjustment
- •Full tank of premium unleaded mixed 80:1 with Amsoil Sabre two-stroke
- •New NGK spark plug
- •Transmission flush and fill with Amsoil fluid
- •Ignition system inspection and point-gap setting
- •Cable lubrication and tensioning (1 new cable if needed)
- •Electrical system review and 1 new light bulb if needed
- •Tire pressure set to 38 PSI
- •5-mile test ride with final troubleshooting
- •Amsoil "Miracle Wash" cleanup
Detroit Moped Works produces reproduction and custom decals in multiple colors and sizes. Examples from their portfolio:
- •Puch Series B tank decals with custom color schemes
- •Motobecane reproductions (including gold foil options)
- •Honda Hobbit customizations (PA 50 → PA 70 modifications)
- •Tomos Funtastic variations with custom text
- •Sachs Suburban with custom additions
- •Heat-transfer options for seats and panels

As of May 2025, Detroit Moped Works no longer accepts:
- •Full restorations
- •Mystery diagnostics on unknown bikes
- •Deep-dive performance builds
They're hiring mechanics as of March 2025, so capacity is being actively managed. All repairs and tune-ups are scheduled via their online calendar—booking guarantees bench time, tech availability, and parts readiness.
Before you buy, you can test ride. And at pickup, you get a professional ride lesson—not every shop does this.
