The Community Firearm Violence Prevention Network is an NIH-supported research collaboration focused on preventing firearm violence through community-based interventions and rigorous scientific study. This is academic research infrastructure, not a firearms business.
The Network runs a two-phase research model:
1. Pilot Phase (UG3) — Two years developing foundational data 2. Trial Phase (UH3) — Three years testing intervention efficacy
This compressed timeline accelerates science by combining development with large-scale testing in a defined period.
The Network consists of: - A Coordinating Center (University of Michigan) - A Steering Committee - Multiple research projects across partner institutions
Community partners are members of the research team, not just subjects. This ensures programs address actual local needs and remain sustainable.

Recent projects include studies on young Black men who carry guns, trauma center partnerships with legal experts, and interventions breaking cycles of violence. The Network hosted the 2026 National Research Conference for Prevention of Firearm-Related Harms.
