Molt Gear started where Giant Canada geese still congregate every fall. Founder Scott Threinen grew up on a small dairy farm just outside Rochester, Minnesota, hearing geese land in the cornfields behind his property. By age 12 he was hunting waterfowl. By 14 he was guiding hunters at local outfitters. By his mid-20s, he'd won the World Live Goose Calling Championship three consecutive years—2007, 2008, and 2009—and retired from competition undefeated.
"It's a bird-first philosophy that started many years ago and will continue to drive our everyday work and products."
Before manufacturing calls, Scott built Molt Gear's reputation through education. In 2006 they released Bad Grammer—a CD featuring live recordings of actual goose sounds. The success led to a DVD in 2008 showing both sight and sound, plus real hunting examples of when to use each call. Today Bad Grammer Academy brings the same teachings to handheld devices.
The instructional series expanded with the Goose Society DVD line (covering decoys, spreads, concealment, flagging, and calling) and Duck Society—all filmed in high-pressure Minnesota conditions. These remain bestsellers.
Molt Gear released their first manufactured call in 2013, and the product line has grown steadily:

Still based in Rochester, Minnesota—the epicenter of Giant Canada goose hunting—Molt Gear works and hunts in the exact conditions their products are built for. The harsh Minnesota winters and high-pressure refuge hunting keep them sharp. Scott Threinen runs the company with the same work ethic instilled on the family dairy farm decades ago.
