Billings TrailNet is a 501(c)(3) non-profit grassroots organization with a single mission: create a complete, community-wide trail system in Billings, Montana. They raise awareness about existing trails, encourage residents to use them, and secure matching funds the City of Billings needs to develop new connections.
In 2024 alone, Billings TrailNet volunteer committees raised $395,000 in funding for trails.
The organization has been instrumental in connecting Billings residents to outdoor recreation. Key trail systems they support include:
They've advocated for comprehensive trail signage plans that provide directions, mileage, and difficulty levels—helping both tourists and residents navigate local paths.
Board members bring professional expertise to trail planning and development. The organization hosts regular events like Ales for Trails and Tour de Fleur that combine community engagement with fundraising.
Scott Brown, a long-time corporate member and outdoor advocate, highlights the broader impact: "Trails attract tourists. People headed to Yellowstone Park would stay an extra night if our trails were better known. Connecting trails to the rims and the river has the potential of drawing people to Billings."
