Full description and what we offer

Competitive Target Designs and Manufacturing started in 2019 in Lincoln, Nebraska. They design and manufacture steel targets, target stands, and custom plasma art pieces for shooters across all 50 states.

Steel Targets - Gong targets (best for rifles and magnum handguns) - Static targets (better for handguns and faster follow-up shots) - Silhouette targets (12×20 configuration) - Custom designs available

Target Stands & Mounting - Gong stands (heavy-duty for magnum rifles) - Static target stands (use standard 2×4 wood uprights) - Static target holders - Various mounting hardware

Plasma Art & Custom Work - Eagle flag designs ($35–$85) - Halloween-themed targets - Custom artwork on request

They use AR500 steel exclusively—not mild steel. AR500 is heat-treated to 500Bhn hardness, which matters. Here's what works for what:

Steel GradeBest ForCalibers
1/4" AR500Handgun targets & rimfire38sp, 9mm, 40S&W, 22lr
3/8" AR500Everyday club/training use223/5.56, 308, magnum handguns
1/2" AR500Rugged rifle use300, 338 magnum
3/4" AR500Heavy magnum use50BMG, 416, 408

Important: Minimum distance for 223/5.56 is 100 yards (3/8" or 1/2" AR500, 55gr FMJ from 16" barrel at 2800 fps max). Higher velocity loads need longer range. Never shoot steel core or solid copper bullets—use paper targets instead.

Gong Targets - Better for long-action and magnum rifles - Work with magnum handguns - Swing after impact (slower follow-up shots) - More robust stands can handle heavy use - Better for 308 Win and larger calibers

Static Targets - Faster to set up - Easy to hang from shepherd's hooks ($5–6 hardware store) - Stop moving quickly—better for double-tap practice - Perfect for 223/5.56 on hooks - Can shoot repeatedly without waiting - Not rated for rifles larger than 308 Win - Easier portable setup

They ship to all 50 states, plus Puerto Rico and Guam. Most targets fit flat-rate boxes. Custom order pricing available on larger items.

If you need custom targets, artwork, or have questions about minimum distances and steel thickness, contact them directly. They respond to custom requests via email.

Bullet fragments deflect at roughly 20 degrees off steel targets. While most bullets don't ricochet back, always wear eye and ear protection. Set up in a safe location with clear backgrounds. The ring sound varies—thinner targets and larger gongs ring louder than thicker, smaller ones.
