American Legion Junior Shooting League (New York Department)

The New York Junior Shooting Sports League is a competitive youth shooting program administered by The American Legion Department of New York, headquartered in Troy, NY. This organization offers structured, age-appropriate shooting sports training and competition for young marksmen across New York State.

The league operates multiple divisions to serve shooters of different ages and skill levels:

• •Air Rifle Divisions (Sporter and Precision) - Ages 12 through high school senior
• •BB Gun League - Ages 8 to 15

Participants compete in seven regular season matches followed by state championships. The competitive season typically runs from November through February/March, allowing youth shooters to develop marksmanship skills in a supportive, structured environment.

• •Air Rifle Competition consists of 60-round matches with three positions:
• •20 rounds prone
• •20 rounds offhand
• •20 rounds kneeling

• •BB Gun Competition includes 40 rounds across four positions plus a knowledge test at state championships:
• •10 rounds prone
• •10 rounds offhand
• •10 rounds kneeling
• •10 rounds sitting
• •50-question test (state championships only)

• •Air Rifle Teams: 4 individual shooters per team
• •BB Gun Teams: 5 shooters with 2 alternate shooters

• •Air Rifle Championship: Cicero American Legion Post, Cicero, NY (February)
• •BB Gun Championship: Binghamton Rifle Club, Binghamton, NY (March)
