Ws Sportsmen Club

The Winston-Salem Sportsmen Club, Inc. is a community-focused 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, dedicated to promoting scholarship and athletic achievement among athletes in the Forsyth County region.

Founded in 1957, the Winston-Salem Sportsmen Club evolved from the "Hungry Club" at the Patterson Avenue Y.M.C.A., where young male executives and public servants who were former athletes gathered for weekly symposiums. Under the leadership of Samuel D. Harvey, the organization was established to pursue athletic interests and community support.

The club's primary mission centers on recognizing and rewarding athletic achievement through multiple annual programs:

• •Mary Garber Holiday Classic - An annual high school girls' basketball tournament held in November
• •Annual Scholarship Golf Classic - A fundraising event supporting athletic scholarships
• •Winston-Salem/Forsyth County High School Sports Hall of Fame - Honoring outstanding athletes throughout the region
• •Hall of Fame Banquet - An annual gala held each May to celebrate inductees

Since its inception, the club has maintained strong relationships with local school principals, athletic directors, and coaches. The organization has hosted distinguished guest speakers including legendary athletes like Jim Brown, Bobby Mitchell, and notable coaches such as C.E. "Bighouse" Gaines and Jim Valvano.

The club operates as an active membership organization with various sponsorship opportunities available for businesses and individuals interested in supporting youth athletics. The organization continues to evaluate and update its programs to meet evolving community needs.
