Full description and what we offer
The Oregon State Sheriffs' Association (OSSA) runs the state's concealed handgun license (CHL) safety training program. This online course satisfies Oregon's mandatory firearms safety education requirement under ORS 166.291—you need this certificate before you can apply for your CHL with your county sheriff.
The course covers handgun safety fundamentals and meets the state's statutory requirements. Once you complete it and receive your certificate, you'll take that to your county sheriff's office to apply for your actual CHL license.
OSSA offices are in Salem, Oregon (Willamette Valley). You can reach them during business hours:
The Oregon State Sheriffs' Association is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports Oregon's 36 elected county sheriffs through leadership development, training, and professional advancement. Your course completion fee and membership donations are tax-deductible and directly support local sheriff's offices and public safety initiatives statewide.
After completing this course, you must still apply for your CHL with your county sheriff. The certificate alone doesn't grant you the license—it just meets the training requirement.
