LSSA exists to promote fellowship and sportsmanship among law-abiding outdoor enthusiasts. The organization works with state and federal agencies to stock fish and game, maintains conservation efforts, and enforces game and forestry laws. Members commit to following all federal and state regulations—the board holds members accountable when violations occur.
Membership is open to anyone 21 and older with interest in field and stream activities. The club especially welcomes support for children's programs through donations of gifts, party favors, and supplies.
