Day County Sheriff

The Day County Sheriff's Office operates from 710 West 2nd Street in Webster, SD and serves the entire county plus the communities of Andover, Bristol, Pierpont, Roslyn, and Waubay. The office also assists Webster Police Department when needed.

The sheriff's office operates with: - 1 Sheriff - 3 full-time Deputies - 1 full-time Administrative Assistant - 1 full-time Jail Administrator - 6 part-time Jailer/Dispatchers

Day County processes all three types of South Dakota concealed carry permits:

• •Enhanced Permit Requirements: Must complete a qualifying handgun course with at least 98 rounds of live fire training. Training cost capped at $150. List of approved instructors available through South Dakota Attorney General's office.

The Day County Detention Center operates a 13-bed facility with separate cells. Each unit includes toilet, sink, and bunk. The facility:

• •Holds adult offenders and juveniles
• •Has Collocated Juvenile Detention status approved by SD Department of Corrections
• •Houses juveniles from Roberts, Marshall, Grant, and other counties
• •Holds juveniles for Sisseton-Whapeton Oyate

• •Work Release Program: $50/day for Day County inmates, $95/day for inmates from other counties. Accounts must be paid in full before release.

• •Phone Cards: Inmates purchase $10 phone cards (~10 minutes talk time). Family can deposit funds through Reliance Telephone (1-800-896-3201) or online at www.reliancetelephone.com for phone cards, text messaging, and video calling access.

• •Visitation: Currently no set visitation times due to COVID-19. Inmates can receive video calls on inmate phones. Juvenile inmates' parents/guardians may schedule visits any day except mealtimes by calling ahead.

Minimum qualifications: - High School Diploma/GED - US citizen - At least 21 years old - Valid driver's license - No felony or domestic violence convictions - Willingness to relocate to Day County - Ability to work weekends, nights, holidays - Pass drug screening and background investigation
