Full description and what we offer
Black Blox Finishes handles four core surface treatment processes for parts across automotive, powersports, marine, aerospace, industrial, and specialty applications. Located in Hallam (Victoria 3803), they work by appointment only and specialize in high-durability coatings that replace traditional multi-layer paint and plating systems.
- •Cerakote Ceramic Coating is their flagship service. It's a thin-film ceramic polymer coating (.0005" to .001" thick) that applies to ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, alloys, polymers, and composites. Unlike powder coat or paint, Cerakote is a single-layer system with superior chemical resistance, UV stability, and abrasion resistance. It handles hydraulic fluids, fuels, solvents, acids, and commercial disinfectants. High-temperature variants protect parts up to 1,800°F without spalling or cracking.
Common automotive applications include pistons, shocks, suspension components, engine casings, valve covers, differential covers, brakes, and skid plates. Cerakote replaces anodizing, zinc plating, nickel plating, chromate conversions, and traditional paint.
- •Vapor Blasting uses water and specialized media in controlled equipment. The process removes existing coatings and prepares surfaces for finishing. Parts are meticulously cleaned after blasting, but customers are responsible for final verification of media removal before use.
- •Powder Coating creates a durable shell finish lasting 10-20 years depending on UV exposure and environment. It resists cracking, peeling, chipping, and chemical damage with excellent color retention and gloss. Black Blox warrants powder work for one year.
- •Isotropic Super Finishing uses vibratory finishing machines with high-density ceramic media and metal finishing compounds. This reduces friction, extends component life, improves corrosion resistance, reduces wear, and lowers lubrication costs. Benefits include reduced vibration, lower operating temperatures, extended maintenance intervals, and improved fuel economy. Common applications are aerospace, mining, automotive racing, powersports, and gearing.
Cerakote carries a 2-year warranty covering loss of adhesion, flaking, or peeling under normal use. Discoloration, thermal wrapping effects, and wear from dirt motorsports are not covered. Cerakote's thin application means it's not permanent—all coatings wear over time.
Powder coating is warranted for one year against manufacturer standards. Vapor blasting carries no warranty on residual media—that's customer responsibility for inspection before reassembly.
Parts must arrive clean, free from dirt, oil, and grit. Dirty parts incur $25-$100 cleaning fees. Second-hand parts may reveal existing cracks or rust pin holes once stripped—these require separate welding quotes before finishing can proceed.
