Full description and what we offer
Green Mountain Hounds is a fox hunting club based in Richmond, VT, welcoming riders of all experience levels to participate in traditional mounted hunting. Whether you're a seasoned rider or new to the sport, the club provides structure and community for a day in the saddle following hounds across Vermont's countryside.
Hunts run Thursdays and Sundays throughout the season, with hounds out for 1-1.5 hours in spring and late summer, extending to 2-2.5 hours as the season progresses. Riders arrive by 9:45am to meet with the Field Secretary, sign waivers, and handle the capping fee before hounds release at 10am.
Capping fees apply toward membership if you decide to join.
Members enjoy consistent access to hunts and community events throughout the season:
| Membership | Cost |
|---|---|
| Patron (bring 1 guest per hunt) | $950 |
| Family | $850 |
| Individual | $600 |
| Pick and Choose (8 hunts) | $450 |
| Young Adult (18-25) | $350 |
| Junior (17 and under) | $100 |
| Social | $50 |
The club hosts Hunt Clinics for hands-on training, Trail Rides for scenic exploration, the New England Hunter Trials for competitive riders, and Hunter Pace events combining timed riding challenges. A Children's Hunt in September waives capping fees with pre-registration.
Hunts take place across nine Vermont properties including Quiet Valley Farm, Lilac Ridge, Bottum Farm, and Eddy Farm. Tailgating and potluck lunches are part of the experience—formal season members take turns hosting.
