First Defense Krav Maga

First Defense Krav Maga operates from 360 Herndon Parkway, Suite 1200 in Herndon, VA 20170. They've been teaching Krav Maga to men, women, and children of all ages for more than a decade.

FDKM is affiliated with Krav Maga Global (KMG), the internationally recognized Krav Maga organization. Their instructors are KMG-certified and have trained directly under Eyal Yanilov and the KMG Global Instructor Team. Their lead instructor served as KMG's US Coordinator and on the National Team of Experts.

"We teach Krav Maga as a system—not an add-on fitness class."

This matters because real Krav Maga covers the full spectrum: awareness, prevention, de-escalation, physical techniques, and tactical problem-solving. FDKM doesn't treat self-defense as a side benefit of getting fit.

Adult students get practical skills across multiple domains:

• •Verbal de-escalation and boundary setting
• •Releases from holds and grabs
• •Defenses against strikes, kicks, and armed attackers
• •Ground defense and how to escape dangerous positions
• •Multiple aggressor scenarios
• •Decision-making under stress

They run introductory 4-week courses on a regular schedule. The next intro course begins February 3rd (Tuesdays & Thursdays through February 26). A 3-class trial pass costs $19.99—this lets you sample different class times and see the full range of what Krav Maga covers before committing.

FDKM offers age-appropriate Krav Maga for younger students:

• •Kids Krav Concepts (Ages 5-7): 30-minute classes introducing age-appropriate self-defense, physical conditioning, boundary setting, and decision-making.

• •Youth Program (Ages 7-13): 45-minute classes covering:
• •Personal safety principles
• •Making good decisions
• •Releases and defenses
• •Falling safely
• •Stress management
• •Protecting others

3-class trial: $19.99 Monthly membership: Starts at $135 (sibling discounts and family plans available)

FDKM also offers:

• •Leadership Development - Programs building leadership skills alongside martial arts training
• •Shuai Jiao - Chinese wrestling and grappling art

FDKM regularly hosts specialty workshops and seminars. Recent offerings included:

• •Open seminar with Eyal Yanilov on dealing with armed attacks, threats, and multiple aggressors (3-hour intensive)
• •"College Prep" self-defense course for high schoolers and college students
• •5-day youth summer camps (July 14-18, 2025) with morning/afternoon Krav Maga sessions plus complementary martial arts instruction
• •Members-only seminars like the Thanksgiving Food Fight (free for active members, $25 for non-members)
• •Annual holiday party and community events

Krav Maga is practical—it was developed for Israeli military and law enforcement. Unlike many martial arts, Krav Maga assumes real attackers don't follow rules. You learn to end threats quickly and get to safety, not score points or demonstrate technique.

FDKM students report gains in: - Physical fitness and endurance - Confidence in dangerous situations - Mental clarity under pressure - Real-world decision-making skills - Stress management - Community (FDKM explicitly builds a supportive, like-minded training community)
