Full description and what we offer
ADTA is a 501(c)(7) non-profit organization founded in 2011 that specializes in practical pistol training and defensive firearm skills. They operate monthly action pistol shoots and dry-fire workshops at Cascade Rifle & Pistol Club in Ravensdale, WA (26520 292nd Ave SE, Ravensdale, WA 98051)—just 30 minutes east of Federal Way.
Unlike static range shooting, ADTA events focus on movement, accuracy under pressure, and realistic self-defense scenarios. Shooters work through skills training and scenario-based exercises using both dry-fire (no ammunition) and live-fire drills.
This isn't a competition—shooters are timed and scored to understand individual improvement, but the focus is on skill development and learning.
Cascade's outdoor facilities include: - Outdoor action bays with practical pistol courses - Outdoor pistol ranges - Outdoor rifle ranges - Designated "E" Range (Bays 3, 4, and 5) for action pistol events
Event Details: - Monthly schedule (typically held on Sundays) - 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM (arrive by 8:30 AM) - Typical attendance: 10 to 30 participants - Cost: $10 per shooter (paid at Bay 4) - First-time shooters shoot free - No preregistration required - Open to the public - No membership required - Post-event cleanup and activities participation welcome
What to Bring: - Semiautomatic pistol of choice - At least three magazines - Strong-side holster - Magazine pouch - 100 to 200 rounds of ammunition - Eye and ear protection (mandatory) - Billed hat (recommended for shell casings) - Appropriate outdoor clothing
ADTA also hosts dry-fire workshops (no ammunition) in Federal Way and other locations. These events feature:
Dry-fire training costs nothing after initial gun investment and is ideal for frequent practice between live-fire events.
ADTA enforces these principles at every event:
1. Treat every gun as if it is loaded – Hold yourself to this habit every single time 2. Keep your gun pointed in a safe direction – Muzzle-down when holstered; downrange when on firing line 3. Index your trigger finger until you are on target – Trigger finger straight and flat against the gun body when not firing 4. Be certain of your target and what is beyond it – You're responsible for the entire path of every bullet
| Command | What It Means |
|---|---|
| CEASE FIRE! | Stop immediately, index trigger finger, freeze in place |
| Eyes and ear protection on | Mandatory at all times |
| Range is hot | RSO confirmed safety check; event will begin |
| Shooters to the line | Step forward to firing line, align with other shooters |
| Load and make ready | Un-holster, load, chamber round, assume ready position |
| Shooter ready? | Confirm you're ready to begin exercise |
| Go! | Begin the exercise (may be whistle or buzzer) |
| Unload and show clear | Remove magazine, eject chambered round, show breech to RSO |
| Range is cold | All firearms unloaded and holstered; safe to move downrange |
"I joined ADTA after 20 years of carrying a handgun. Before ADTA the problem was that in between those expensive classes I wasn't getting any realistic practice. Going to the range and shooting in a lane just isn't preparing anyone for the reality of a self defense shooting. Over the last 10 years ADTA has given me the opportunity to train indoors on a regular monthly schedule." – Brandon K., ADTA Member
